Introduction: An Hour’s Drive from Bangkok to Bubble in the Forest Café, with the Feel of an Island Escape
If you live in Bangkok or Pattaya, the name Bubble in the Forest Café may already be familiar. Located in Sam Phran, Nakhon Pathom, this restaurant is more than a photogenic check-in spot. It feels as though a tropical resort has been brought to the outskirts of the city. Wooden walkways, reflections on the water, white floating platforms, tree-framed structures, and clear bubble seats for photos all come together to make it feel like a miniature Maldives. It’s a distinctive place to enjoy a meal.

Today I brought a male friend visiting from Taiwan here for lunch. We were lucky enough to get an upstairs space in a standalone little pavilion, comfortable and open, with a view across the entire overwater grounds. The biggest surprise was running into a whole tour group from Taiwan. For a moment, it felt like we were back in a popular restaurant in Taipei’s Xinyi District, right down to the familiar language. We had a good laugh about that.

Bubble in the Forest Café Atmosphere: A Floating Forest, Water Views, and a Fresh Breeze, Perfect for Conversation
Its charm comes down to a sense of openness.
The buildings are scattered over the water, with wooden walkways connecting the photo spots and dining areas. The whole restaurant is a semi-open space surrounded by trees. Sunlight and leafy shadows reflect on the water, creating a lovely blend of nature and design.

The view from our upstairs seats was particularly good. Looking up, we could watch the light and shadows change; looking down, we had the whole expanse of water below, with photo platforms and floating seats in the distance. Being a little higher than the other dining areas meant a more comfortable breeze and a quieter setting. It’s a lovely place to talk, relax, and have a drink, especially if you’re bringing friends from abroad.
Every now and then, we heard visitors exclaiming or directing a photo:
“Over here! Take one of me!”
“It’s so beautiful!”
The atmosphere was lively without being noisy, full of cheerful outdoor energy.
Although it’s often described as a scenic café for photos, today’s food actually exceeded my expectations. None of the dishes was mind-blowing, but all were well done, especially for bringing friends who are eating in Thailand for the first time.
1. Spicy and Sour Pork Cartilage Soup (Tom Saap)
Lemongrass, makrut lime leaves, chilies, and fish sauce weave together in the aroma, followed by just the right tang and a clean hit of heat. The pork cartilage had been simmered long enough to be tender with a little crunch, easy to eat. As our first hot dish at Bubble in the Forest Café, it immediately woke up our appetites.

2. Crab Fried Rice
The rice was light and fluffy rather than oily, with a clear crab aroma. A little lime made it even fresher. It paired surprisingly well with the spicy and sour soup, a dependable choice that almost everyone orders with Thai food.

3. Thai Steamed Fish with Lime (Pla Neung Manao)
The fish was steamed just right, with delicate, tender flesh. The broth was tangy and fragrant with a little heat, while the garlic added depth. Spoon some of that broth over the crab rice, and Bubble in the Forest Café’s lime-steamed fish takes the meal up a notch.

4. Fried Shrimp and Rice Vermicelli with Tamarind Sauce
Crisp on the outside, with the textures of the shrimp and rice vermicelli still distinct inside. The sweet-and-sour tamarind sauce added another layer of flavor. Compared with ordinary fried food, it kept us coming back without feeling too rich.

5. Squid with Crispy Garlic: the crispy garlic deserves special praise.
Golden, fragrant, and fried without feeling greasy, it went beautifully with the squid. The springy bite of the squid and that burst of garlic made this one of those dishes we kept quietly reaching for.

6. Stir-Fried Mixed Vegetables
Fresh-tasting and lightly seasoned, these balanced out the richer dishes.
Nothing fancy in the details, just a useful, well-judged addition to the meal.

Drinks: Iced Americano and Lychee Soda

- Iced Americano: clean bitterness, refreshing and invigorating, just the thing for sitting by the water in the breeze.
- Lychee Soda: pretty to look at, lightly sweet, and very friendly to the camera.
Lunch with a Friend: Upstairs Views and a Thorough Catch-Up
Our upstairs spot was quieter than the regular seating and had such a good view that we easily settled into conversation over lunch. We talked about life in Thailand, work in Taiwan, travel, exercise, family, and even some gossip we hadn’t caught up on in ages.

The funniest moment came when we suddenly heard familiar voices and looked down to see a Taiwanese tour group arriving. That contrast of being in Thailand yet feeling as though we were back in Taiwan added a warm, amusing little episode to our lunch at Bubble in the Forest Café.
