Early this morning, I drove to Pro Clean at the mall to have my car washed. While they were busy making it sparkle, I figured I should make good use of the time. Experience has taught me that if you head to a restaurant after 12:00 noon, almost every place in the mall has a queue, so I decided to get in early for lunch. Up on the dining floor, I spotted a familiar sign: On the Table, Tokyo Café. You’ll find this restaurant in several malls, and its name has such a welcoming feel, as if it’s saying, “Come on in, sit down, and enjoy a meal.”

About On the Table
On the Table specializes in Japanese-Western fusion, with dishes ranging from classics like beef curry rice, mentaiko pasta, and baked rice with teriyaki chicken to creative options such as matcha baked rice and smoked salmon pizza. The flavors are gentle and the portions just right: a meal for one won’t leave you stuffed, while two people can order a few extra dishes to share. Desserts are another highlight, including matcha tiramisu and soufflé pancakes. Add a pot of hot tea, and you have a lovely little moment of happiness right in the middle of the mall.

An Easy Choice for a Meal at the Mall
The setting works for all sorts of occasions:
- Sit by the window on your own, enjoy your meal, and scroll through your phone at your leisure.
- Catch up with friends and chat comfortably into the afternoon.
- Bring the family and kids along without worrying about finding something everyone will enjoy.
The wooden tables and chairs and warm lighting naturally invite you to slow down and savor your meal.

Final Thoughts
The flavors here don’t stray far from the familiar. You might find them a little standardized rather than especially surprising, but with its comfortable setting and above-average food, On the Table is a good choice when you want to sit down for a break and aren’t sure what to eat.
