The Bamboo Bar is undoubtedly one of my favorite places to visit in Thailand.

Located along the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, The Bamboo Bar is a historic and distinctive spot, part of the renowned Mandarin Oriental Bangkok. Its sophisticated ambiance and meticulously crafted cocktails have earned it a place in the hearts of both tourists and locals alike. Since its opening, it has become a cherished gathering place, blending timeless elegance with contemporary flair.

The bar’s design is steeped in nostalgia, with dark wooden furniture and bamboo accents, creating a classic Southeast Asian atmosphere. Live jazz performances fill the air, adding an extra layer of enchantment to the evening as guests unwind to the smooth rhythms and the nighttime view of Bangkok. The Bamboo Bar offers an array of creative cocktails, with bartenders drawing on local ingredients to craft drinks with a distinctly Thai twist. One standout is the “Thaijito,” a unique blend of Thai herbs and spirits that is simply captivating.

The bar was buzzing with people, and even outside, the live jazz band’s performance was mesmerizing. This intimate jazz ensemble, with its warm sound, perfectly complements the cozy atmosphere. After about an hour’s wait, I finally made my way inside.

If you sit out on the terrace, you can feel the gentle breeze and watch the Chao Phraya River glide by, the perfect backdrop for leaving behind the bustle of the city. Inside, you’re treated to the rich, soulful voice of a Black jazz singer, bringing classic hits to life one after another.

As the night came to a close, an elderly couple requested Dusty Springfield’s 1967 hit “The Look of Love.” How is it that I happen to know that song too?

or me, The Bamboo Bar isn’t just a place to drink; it’s a venue where history, music, and Bangkok’s unique culture converge. Whether you’re savoring a classic martini or trying one of their signature cocktails, the experience will linger long after. Occasionally, well-dressed businesspeople in tuxedos or suits with bow ties walk through, giving the place the feel of a scene straight out of a movie.
didn’t get drunk, but I was utterly intoxicated by the music and the vibe. Google Map attached.
